Creating space for reflection, reframing and growth
I’m always encouraged when coaching clients share how much they value the time and space that coaching gives them.
NPQEL participant Paul Greenough, who steps into a new secondary headship this September, recently told me:
“Coaching has given me the headspace to think, reflect and take stock. It’s helped me reframe my thinking and rethink my narrative as I prepare for the transition into a new leadership role.”
What stood out in our conversation was how important it had been for him to have a confidential, non-judgmental space—one where he could speak openly, explore sensitive issues, and feel supported without consequence in his current role.
He described the coaching experience as “natural and human”, and expressed genuine gratitude for the time invested in his professional development.
For many school leaders, especially at points of transition, this kind of space can be invaluable.
If you’re preparing for a new leadership role—or navigating complex challenges where you’d benefit from a space to think—coaching can make a real difference.
Who holds space for you to think, reframe and grow?
