Belonging

🤔 Are you wondering why I'm so interested in belonging?
And running a FREE webinar on the subject tomorrow? (Link in bio/comments)
It's because I have a long-standing interest in what makes schools (and other organisations) effective.
A school may have:
✔️ pupils who want to learn,
✔️ talented people,
✔️ a well-designed curriculum,
✔️ effective pedagogy,
✔️ great resources
and STILL be a struggling, under-performing school IF the culture is not right.
My belief in the importance of an effective culture is at the heart of my interest in belonging. I believe that creating a strong sense of belonging is central to building an effective culture - whether it's in a school, trust or in a classroom.
Being an effective school leader is not just about being organised, using effective systems or drawing on domain specific expertise.
It is far more.
Being an effective leader is also:
✔️ being capable of inspiring and motivating others to follow you,
✔️ building an effective, high-performing team
✔️ inspiring others to go the extra mile because they buy into your vision, and how you embody your values.
Any how do you get staff and children to do this?
You build BELONGING.
✨ You ensure that every child and member of staff feel valued and an essential part of the community.
✨ You take time to get to know them as a person - not just as a pupil or colleague .
✨ You show that you're invested in them - that you care and that you will do all you can to enable them to flourish.
✨ You build highly effective relationships
✨ Are super clear about the boundaries and hold these tightly
✨ And communicate really effectively
THATS why I'm so interested in belonging.
🤔 Do you agree?
